With 17 bookshops in the Netherlands and 9 in Belgium Boekhandel J. De Slegte B.V. may be called as the largest secondhand bookstore in the Benelux countries.
The history of "Boekhandel De Slegte" starts in 1907 when the great-grandfather of the present owner set up a lending library and a trade with used books. This trade became instantaneously a success with the pleasant consequence that within foreseeable time new bookshops were opened in other towns. The assortment was further broadened with remainders and used schoolbooks.
Except for secondhand books there are also thousands of remainders and so-called promotional books to find in every bookshop, which constantly are renewed or replenished through the year.
The bookshops in Amsterdam, The Hague and Antwerp have also at their disposal a stock with antiquarian books and prints, which occasionally are showed and offered during international bookfairsWith the daily supply of new and used books kept in mind, the adage for every reader or bibliophile can nowadays be formulated as: 'De Slegte, always worth a visit!'
